If you have spent the past year struggling to deal with glasses or contact lenses, consider treating yourself to laser vision correction. The end of the year is an excellent time to give yourself the gift of clear sight with LASIK. Here, Dr. Linda Vu explains why the time is right.
Use Health Savings Account Funds Before They Expire
As Dr. Vu mentioned a few months ago, cost is an important consideration for many LASIK patients. One way that some patients choose to absorb the cost of LASIK is to use funds from a health savings account (like an HSA or FSA).
A health savings account is a special account that you can use to pay for elective, out-of-pocket health services (like LASIK). The money you contribute to these accounts is not taxed, and it lowers your taxable income. However, one drawback of certain HSAs or FSAs is that any funds that are unused by the end of the year do not roll over to the next year. In other words, you must use these funds before December 31 or forfeit them. The good news is, if, toward the end of the year, you still have a sizable amount in your HSA or FSA, you can use this money to lower your LASIK bill.
Before you go this route, be sure to double-check your savings account plan’s terms and conditions. You can also speak with a member of our team about your LASIK payment options.
Adequate Time to Recover
While the typical LASIK recovery is not exceptionally long, most patients take a few days off work or school to rest their eyes. Scheduling LASIK before a long holiday weekend is a great chance to recover without needing to take additional vacation time off from important obligations. Many offices and schools offer week-long breaks around the holidays, which are convenient times to schedule LASIK.
Start the New Year Off Right
Many people spend the end of the year reflecting on their goals and accomplishments, and making plans for the next year. Wouldn’t it be great to ring in 2017 with clearer, crisper vision? Imagine all the ways your life would change with freedom from glasses or contacts. You might be more active, or feel more confident in your physical appearance.
